How it all began
I have lived in Carlton since 2000 with my husband and our three children. I enrolled my eldest son at playschool and nursery but was surprised to find that there was no provision for children under two and a half years. After a lot of thought and seeing a definite need in Carlton, I decided to do something about it.
In September 2001 Little Monkeys was launched, running every Tuesday morning during term-time. By Christmas of the same year, there was a demand for more sessions so in January 2002 there was also a Friday morning session.
We now have 30 children on our register, of which many attend most sessions with their mum/dad/grandma/childminder to name but a few!
The importance of play
Parent & toddler groups are a first introduction for children to have fun, socialise and learn outside of the home. They are a good way to encourage children to share and take turns, to play with or alongside other children and learn how to be independent. Parents/carers are responsible for the children that they bring to Little Monkeys at all times during the session. There will be a wide range of toys available to cater for the different ages of children so please ensure that your children are playing will toys relevant to their age.
The aim of Little Monkeys is to offer:
a safe and satisfying environment for children to play and learn
a place where both adults and children can socialise and form friendships that may last for many years
a chance for parents to compare notes and discuss problems with people in similar situations
a new surrounding and toys different to those usually offered at home
